Discovery Retreat

Discovery Retreat: Exploring Oceanography is scheduled for October 3-5, 2014
(For 11th and 12th graders)

Students will explore a variety of topics related to oceanography such as:

  • Unmanned Submarines (aka Remotely Operated Vehicles or ROVs)
  • Chemistry of ocean water
  • Underwater plant and animal life
  • Underwater filming with GoPro cameras

Our Keynote Speaker will be Jennifer Reilly, a young deaf oceanographer who is currently working at the Loggerhead MarineLife Center surveying sea turtle nesting beaches in Florida.  Jen is from Farmingdale, New York and has a B.A from Long Island University at Southampton College and her M.A from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.  She has previously worked with sea turtles as a graduate assistant in Hawai'i and with the Department of Environmental Management in Volusia County, Florida. Jen is pictured at lower right with one of her sea turtle friends.
